Sampling colourings of the triangular lattice
We show that the Glauber dynamics on proper 9-colourings of the triangular lattice is rapidly mixing, which allows for efficient sampling. Consequently, there is a fully polynomial randomised approximation scheme (FPRAS) for counting proper 9-colourings of the triangular lattice. Proper colourings correspond to configurations in the zero-temperature anti-ferromagnetic Potts model. We show that ...
متن کاملSampling Eulerian orientations of triangular lattice graphs
We consider the problem of sampling from the uniform distribution on the set of Eulerian orientations of subgraphs of the triangular lattice. Although it is known that this can be achieved in polynomial time for any graph, the algorithm studied here is more natural in the context of planar Eulerian graphs. We analyse the mixing time of a Markov chain on the Eulerian orientations of a planar gra...
متن کاملCounting and Sampling H-Colourings
For counting problems in #P which are “essentially self-reducible”, it is known that sampling and approximate counting are equivalent. However, many problems of interest do not have such a structure and there is already some evidence that this equivalence does not hold for the whole of #P. An intriguing example is the class ofH-colouring problems, which have recently been the subject of much st...
متن کاملSampling 3-colourings of regular bipartite graphs
We show that if Σ = (V,E) is a regular bipartite graph for which the expansion of subsets of a single parity of V is reasonably good and which satisfies a certain local condition (that the union of the neighbourhoods of adjacent vertices does not contain too many pairwise nonadjacent vertices), and if M is a Markov chain on the set of proper 3-colourings of Σ which updates the colour of at most...
متن کاملRandom Sampling of 3-colourings in Z *
We consider the problem of uniformly sampling proper 3-colourings of an m × n rectangular region of Z. We show that the single-site “Glauber-dynamics” Markov chain is rapidly mixing. Our result complements an earlier result of Luby, Randall and Sinclair, which demonstrates rapid mixing when there is a fixed boundary (whose colour cannot be changed). c © John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
